CHARACTER CANON INFORMATION
Character Name: Maclean, Randy “Ryo”
Canon: FAKE
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Canon Point: Shortly after the events of the Hotel.
History: http://distantguardian.dreamwidth.org/280.html (having difficulties with HTML right now. I'll fix the links as soon as I figure this out.)
Powers/Abilities:
Ryo is average in his physical capabilities as a detective. Fit and able to run long distances. He is very intelligent and responsible. He is, obviously, skilled in law, deduction, and wielding a gun.
However, he did learn from a “buddy” how to make a pipe bomb and demonstrates his ability to infiltrate buildings discreetly.
Personality:
Ryo is very introverted and considers himself straight before meeting Dee. He has a bit of an uptight attitude and it shows most when Dee is hitting on him. He is also strongly prefers to keep his life managed, keeping his house spotless and his bank account well attended to. He finds Dee outwardly annoying and overly teasing, but inside (he even notes to himself later) he finds that there’s something endearing about Dee that doesn’t completely make him want to push Dee away or hate him.
Ryo tends to be a very spaced out individual, but is very mature. His spaced out nature is what allows him to be so easily approached and how Dee can get away with most of what he does. He has a soft spot for children and he adopts Bikky to give him a proper education and home. He even shows extreme worry for Dee at times and gives Dee a kiss in relief after finding out Dee is okay. He kind of alternates between care, affection, and bitterness toward Dee. This makes Ryo have a very difficult time figuring out what he wants. On the one hand, his affection for Dee is obvious, even to others. On the other hand, he doesn’t know if he’s “in love” with Dee.
Ryo can have a bit of a harsh streak. He gets obviously jealous when other people kiss Dee, even though he’ll deny it entirely. He doesn’t forgive Dee when JJ forces a kiss on him and continually gives Dee the cold shoulder because of it. Anyone that hits on Dee will cause Ryo to give this distrustful reaction. In the few times that Ryo’s temper has shown, it is almost out of character for him, as he’s even pulled his gun to get Dee to leave him alone so he can show him something. He has even been called a “catty bitch” in one of his temper tantrums.
CHARACTER AU INFORMATION
Student Name: Maclean, Ryo
Date of Birth: December 12
Typical Appearance:
I’m going with his appearance from FAKE: Second Season, since it makes him look about the appropriate age of an 18-year-old. Chestnut blond hair, black eyes (iris, not injuries), fair complexion, with an often clueless look. (I gave up trying to post a picture because it just doesn't seem to be working no matter what I do. Sorry.)
Typical Inventory:
His school books, of course. He also tends to keep his cell phone on him, even if he hardly uses it. He also has a handful of books he carries with him at anytime concerning Law. He typically carries sandwiches with him to keep himself taken care of when he gets lost in reading. Aside from that, he carries photos of his parents and a few logic games.
Strengths/Abilities:
Ryo is highly intelligent and dedicates himself to his studies seriously. Because of his background, he’s fluent in both Japanese and English. This allows him to be somewhat more resourceful with his surroundings.
He also learned how to sneak around from his mother, for optimum defense and the ability to get the upper hand if need be. He knows how to handle a gun, as well. His physical strength lies in running.
Weaknesses:
Ryo has a soft spot for others, meaning he may jump in front of another to save their life. He’s also not physically the strongest guy around, which can make it easy to knock him down in a physical fight. He’s not strong in the social department and not well-versed in technology.
Personality Translation:
The largest difference between the original CanonRyo and AURyo will likely be his temper. Although he was snippy in the original story, he often did it out of love and consideration for those around him and when his level of discomfort showed around Dee. In this story though, his trigger will be his morals being questioned, which he won’t take to lightly. This will come into play a lot, because this game will challenge his moral compass and he’ll have to make decisions he hates, much less thought he’d ever have to.
Ryo takes his studies very seriously and strives to be a great student. Especially now that his parents are gone, he wants to follow in their footsteps in Law. He’s still uncertain if he wants to be an officer or a lawyer, however. He can be a little socially withdrawn, both in part of how he studies so seriously and the sudden shock of losing both of his parents at one time. He still has a friendly surface personality and will greet many with a smile.
AU Backstory:
Ryo was born with a Republic of Greater East Asia mother and a United Federation father. Ryo grew up in The United Federation and predominantly speaks English, but his mother did teach him Japanese as well, so he is bilingual. His mother worked for the police force while his father was a lawyer. Through them both, he grew up learning a lot about Law and self defense. He learned how to handle a gun from his mother and studied from his father’s books.
Ryo had a pretty decent childhood. Although he wasn’t entirely social (in fact, he was very shy), he did have a few friends and grew up as many normal children would. This made him ultimately friendly and polite to most and hardly outspoken. He’d usually sit quietly in a room unless spoken to, reading all he can from his books. He did find a passion for running and joined the Track Team in United Federation schools in both middle and high school.
Through his teenage years, friends came and went, and Ryo became more attached to studying Law to follow in his parents footsteps. He’d sometimes get bullied for “being a nerd” and a darker side of his personality showed when someone called him stuck up and yanked away his book, tossing it into a mud puddle. He showed a violent side and kicked the bully, since his strength lies in his legs. Because of his strength in Law, he doesn’t like it when his integrity is questioned and will become a little violent because of it, leading to potentially rash decisions.
Shortly before his eighteenth birthday, his parents were returning from a vacation and both died in a car accident. After the wake, an aunt from the Republic of Greater East Asia took him in when no one else would because of his temperament about his integrity. He moved to The Republic of Greater East Asia with his aunt and uncle and joined a new school to finish his diploma. He hadn’t joined the school’s Track Team due to the recovering effects of the shock of losing his parents and has become more withdrawn in the new environment.
Character Summary:
The spacey kid with an integrity trigger; he’s withdrawn and well-versed in Law.
SAMPLES
Thread Sample:
I think my friend might have fallen asleep, so here's Jacob's from Raise The Earth instead. If this changes, I'll just add the new strip to it. Thank you so much!
In-World Sample:
Ryo admitted he’s not entirely thrilled about starting at a new school. Even though he was fluent in Japanese, it felt weird to switch languages so late in his life. It’s taken some getting used to as it is to settle in with his aunt and uncle. He felt like he was imposing, even though they encouraged him to be who he is, make himself at home, and just do the best he can.
Ryo fingered at his new clothes as he walked to the school. “Uniforms, huh? I’d only read about such things. I can’t believe they force this attire on students.” He sighed to himself as he straightened his cuff. It’s not that he really had a problem with the uniforms, he just needed something to complain about, to keep himself distracted from his parents’ deaths. He didn’t need to be caught crying in public.
As he walked through the Shiroiwa school doors, he couldn’t help but feel a little intimidated. The Republic of Greater East Asia had much different customs than the United Federation, such as introducing themselves before the class. He took a breath to keep himself steady and entered into the classroom, greeted by the teacher. He took another breath and hoped he was doing this right. He took a shaky bow.
“I’m… I’m Maclean Ryo. It’s nice to meet all of you.”
Not sure what else to say, he waited to be assigned a seat and quietly made his way to his desk, sitting down without making eye contact with anyone, without saying a word.

Fourthwalling: I generally want to say no. But, if it can be well played, then talk with me. I'm pretty, much flexible.
Offensive subjects: Knowing the game I'm joining, most stuff is fine. I'd probably only limit rape, and I'm not too sure my character would be interested in consensual sex, either.
Hugging this character: Yea, go right ahead. It'll confuse him.
Kissing this character: This would actually be funny. You might just break him.
Flirting with this character: If you want to. Just know he'll probably be clueless to your advances unless you're more direct. And even then....
Fighting with this character: That's why we're here, right? Fight him. It'll make for fun stuff later.
Injuring this character: Go right ahead. But if it's extensive damage, such as dismembering, talk to me first.
Killing this character: Plotting is important.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: -shrugs- If that's a thing, go right ahead. He's probably pretty boring in his head.
Warnings: Will get violent if you even mention his integrity in a bad way.

Ryo History for Headcount
Mar. 13th, 2016 09:59 pmThere are minour spoilers throughout here, for anyone who has not read the story. I have not read FAKE: Second Season, so there’s nothing in here from that, and no headcannon as of right now.
Ryo lost his parents when he was still in high school to a mistaken drug incident. When he found out that his parents were killed by the leader of a drug ring, he vowed to become a police officer and bring them in. The beginning of our story has him walking into the precinct, in New York, as the new detective they hired. Ryo is an experienced detective. Upon meeting his boss he also meets Dee for the first time, who is instantly made Ryo’s new partner. Initially, Ryo finds Dee fairly irritating, though the effect doesn’t take long to wear off. Dee notices Ryo’s eyes and asks if he’s Japanese, then asks for his Japanese name. Because Dee keeps calling Ryo by his Japanese name, it is soon picked up by everyone in the precinct.
Soon after joining the precinct, Ryo ends up taking in a child, Bikky, eventually adopting him. Bicky’s dad died to a drug ring and Bicky wanted revenge. Bikky’s mom is hardly mentioned and Bikky doesn’t seem to be pleased when asked about her. Ryo tries to keep Bikky on the straight and narrow, sending him through school. Bikky considers Ryo to be his “mom” in a sense, while he constantly fights with Dee.
Dee makes constant advances on Ryo throughout the entirety of the story. At first, Ryo insists he’s strictly straight. However, as the story goes on, he lets Dee kiss him, returns a few kisses to Dee, and slowly admits to the feelings he has for his partner. He even gets jealous when other people kiss Dee. Bicky defends Ryo from Dee consistently, often ruining any physical progress between them.
Later, Dee and Ryo go on a vacation to England, where a body is found and they meet Officer Berkley. Berkley takes a fascination with Ryo and tries to advance on him similarly to Dee. Berkley is there on vacation as well, but takes up the investigation as though an amusement to himself, upsetting Dee and getting Ryo to snap a retort of how, “Detective work isn’t a game!” When Ryo goes to see Dee, he ends up giving him a kiss, which causes Dee to pounce on him. After a struggle, they find out that Bikky and his friend, Carol, followed them.
When a rainstorm hits, Dee and Bikky go for groceries while Ryo and Carol enjoy tea and cake in the tea room. Carol falls asleep and Ryo starts feeling drowsy himself. As it turns out, the tea is drugged, and the hotel owner is the killer of any Japanese person who comes to visit his establishment, in order to avenge his daughter. Ryo tries to run, but his body won’t cooperate because of the drugs.
In the shopping center, Dee finds Berkley, who was having an analysis run on some blood he found. He filled Dee in on the details of all the Japanese being murdered at the hotel, to which Dee quickly “borrows” a motorcycle to get back to the hotel to save Ryo. Ryo is grazed before Dee reaches him and punches the hotel owner down. Before long, Dee beats the owner to the point of hospitalization for “touching his Ryo.” Later, the bodies of all the reported missing Japanese and many more are found beneath the main floor of the hotel. Berkley later transfers to Ryo and Dee’s precinct to get closer to Ryo.
Ryo continues with Dee as their attraction grows. He gets to meet Dee’s “mother”, a nun who runs an orphanage. Dee is an inspiration to the kids and Ryo gets to hear the story of how Dee grew up. Mother shows she’s an understanding person and asks for Ryo’s feelings to Dee. Ryo says he’s not quite sure. Mother answers that if two people love and need each other, she doesn’t judge sexuality and that she feels Dee needs Ryo a lot. After Ryo finds Dee again, he tries to talk seriously about their potential relationship until he notices bullet holes near one of the windows. Dee hasn’t noticed them yet and keeps trying to flirt with Ryo, to which Ryo pulls out his gun and says he means it, setting it under Dee’s chin. Dee quickly complies, asking if Ryo has “some sort of split personality or something.” After Ryo indicates the bullet holes, both of their concerns rise up and the orphanage is bombed shortly thereafter. The kids are safely evacuated but mother is severely injured and hospitalized. Dee then starts a long journey to find the attacker and Ryo prevents him from committing murder, by saying that their partners and that Dee will have to kill Ryo first in order to kill the attacker. Ryo’s cheek is grazed by a bullet in Dee’s hysterics. Mother eventually fully recovers with a new orphanage to take care of the children.
Ryo becomes reclusive some time later. Dee notices but can’t seem to pinpoint what’s going on until they are both pulled into Chief Berkley’s office. Berkley relieves both Ryo and Dee from the new case because of Ryo’s ties to it. Berkley admits to Dee that, even though he hates Dee being near Ryo, he trusts Dee to be able to keep Ryo from doing anything stupid better than he can. Ryo goes home pissed and tells Bikky to not let Dee in for any reason. Dee tries to storm the door, but can’t get in. Instead he uses Carol, saying he will “violate her” if Bikky doesn’t let him in. Screaming ensues and Bikky quickly opens the door to save Carol. Dee just messed up Carol’s new hairdo and walks in unopposed. Then he starts talking to Ryo through the bedroom door, demanding answers. Finally, Ryo tells him that he feels betrayed, that Dee was on the precinct’s side. To which Dee says he’ll help Ryo find the killer of his parents, Leo. In several instances, Ryo has the chance to shoot Leo, but just can’t bring himself to. Leo even reveals to Ryo that two people have the right to kill him and Ryo is one of them, because it wasn’t supposed to be his parents that he murdered. During Ryo’s crisis, Ryo offered himself to Dee because he, “Just wouldn’t care at all at that moment.” Dee instead slaps him, saying he does want sex, but not that way. Leo is shot and killed by his wife in the end, the other person who had the right to kill him.
In the end, the two spend Christmas Eve together, where Dee confesses all of his feelings outright for Ryo, wondering if he’s been chasing a pipe dream. And Ryo replies, “I guess this is where I say I love you too.” And the two of them finally pair up.
